"Moomomi Moanalo"
(1976)
mixed media
commissioned by and on display at the Bernice P. Bishop Museum in Honolulu
Depicts the artist’s fanciful idea of the appearance of one species of moanalo, a giant flightless duck known only from bones found in 1974 in lithified sand dunes at Mo‘omomi on Moloka‘i. Windblown sand is shown encroaching on a dry forest.
